Someone else would have to go and rent the cool apartment nobody wanted the day after I looked at it and really liked it. ...
I've had that happen to me at times. The worst one was when I was looking for a 2-bedroom place to replace the 3-bedroom place I'd been renting but could only find 1 roommate for. I remembered seeing a nice place a few buildings down the block which had a '2 Bedroom Apt For Rent' sign on it for the past couple months. I called to get scheduled for a showing and got to see it with a small group of two other potential renters.
I see the place -- looks okay -- but after everyone leaves I stick around to ask the existing tenants one simple question and then went out to meet the rest. By the time I had gotten outside he had rented the place to one of the other groups of people there. D'oh!
