(no subject)

I today closed the deal on my next apartment. It's on Linden Street in Somerville, about the same distance from Davis as I am now, but rather closer to Porter. More important, it's relatively inexpensive ("relatively" being the key word, of course), is on the ground floor, and has nice floors and lotsa interesting space, including a separate dining room (which doubtless I'll just make into a living room extension). A dishwasher yet again eludes my grasp. Someday I will live with one. Someday. Anyway, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cthulhia for helping sanity-check this deal.

I'm sure I have mentioned this before, but this whole business with moving every year is getting pretty damn tired. The thought of buying a home seems less ludicrous these days. (Well, OK, I have been sick of moving for a while, but only lately have I been in a financial situation to even begin considering such a venture. It's strange to realize that if I were still in Maine on my present salary, I probably wouldn't wait another day to start house-shopping. My parents scold by brother and sister-in-law for paying $550 in rent for a Bangor apartment when they could spend less on a mortgage.)

Looking at a homeownership here as well. Decided to lease the house I'm currently in (silly close to work and _great_ light and lots of space, including heat + hot water) and not worry when I find a place to own - it'll make the moving process (or the "let's install some drywall and re-work the electrical system" type process) less painful. I'll just sublease this place when the time comes. If there were only jobs with Boston (area) salaries in Maine!

You think yearly is bad?

In Phoenix, I used to move every 6-9 months. Now that really sucked.

Actually, it's kinda scary, it's getting close to the time where the amount of time that I have spent in my Winslow apartment is the longest I have ever stayed anywhere outside of Orrington.
