I need a TV

Now that you've all saved me from making an ass of myself at the office, you will help me choose a TV.

Seriously... I've never shopped for a TV before. All my TVs have been family hand-me-downs, and two or three moves ago I handed them all back up again. This was back when I huffily broke off my relationship with the boob tube, but that was before a) I discovered the Cartoon Network and b) I started buying video games again. Hi, I am 9 years old. I got up to the third board on Ms. Pac-Man today. I reacclimated myself to the ol' glass teat this year via M's little set, but that's not going to work anymore, since she finally came to collect it last night. So.

Any opinions? Brands to seek/avoid? No opinions is fine, because that will mean I will go to Best Buy and end up with the first oo-pretty I see and it will probably be OK.

If they're only a little more expensive than a typical Philo Tube I might like to get one...

It appears that they're more expensive by an order of magnitude. yeebus

Might wait a bit on that.

I understand there's a mandate for broadcasts to be digital by year x, so at year x, presumably there'll be more variety among HDTVs, more competition, and lower prices. Maybe.
[livejournal.com profile] bonbonbabs asked me to tell you not to get a "large screen T.V." because the picture quality wasn't as good as smaller screens.
