I changed them into the one pair of pants I have left tthat does not sing Holey, Holey, Holey unto my knees. It would seem that my knees are far pointier than most textile manufacturers' standards for material strength allows. It is kind of embarrassing.

The pants are nice black khakis that are a little too short but that is OK. Plans are afoot (or aknee) to patch the others, but now that I think of it, most of my jeans are pretty tattered all around, and it wouldn't be too wasteful to just buy a new pair.
