Yo, Maine people

Maine folk: According to kos, both of the Ladies In Red are among the pool of Senate Republican swing votes that could upset the GOP's attempt at the "nuclear option" of disabling Democratic filibusters against the president's judicial nominees.

This is a good chance to voice your refusal to live under the GOP's "sit down and shut up" style of governing. The senators' phone numbers are to be found in the links under their names in that dKos article [or in the Update to this post, below]. And lookie, I even have a script for you, unwittingly courtesy [livejournal.com profile] jadelennox from an earlier post to [livejournal.com profile] firbolg:
"Hello. I live in ______, and I would like to urge Senator _________ to oppose the
'nuclear option' and support requiring judicial nominees to have broad support in the Senate. Thank you very much."

I called my senators! For all the good it did... I'm doubtful Sens. Kerry or Kennedy need much swaying on the topic. Snowe and Collins are a different story, though; they would be crossing party lines to do this, and need to hear from you, their constituent, that it's worth doing!

Hey [livejournal.com profile] jadelennox is it sensible to call on the weekend or should people wait until Monday? Also can I have a cookie now?

Update [livejournal.com profile] daerr went through the trouble of going through your senators' crappy websites to dig out their phone numbers. And I will preempt JL by betting that calling this weekend and leaving a messsage on a machine will work just fine.

Sen. Olympia Snowe: (800) 432-1599
Sen. Susan Collins: (202) 224-2523

Phone Numbers

No excuses folks:

Collins: (202) 224-2523
Snowe: (800) 432-1599

Both of them have sucky web sites, but in completely different ways.

Collins' site is hard to navigate with non-obvious categories... for instance, there's no contact info under "Constituent Services". In fact, contact information is on every page, in a small graphic in a color just shy of the background color. Ick.

Snowe's site would be wonderful if it weren't for the irritating animated headlines Java applet on the index page. Other then that it was easy to navigate and easy to read.
