I saw the Serenity sneak preview

Movie hits you for 582 damage. You have died.

Because I haven't seen the TV series at all, I dunno how to describe any part of the film without accidentally dropping spoilers, so I'll just keep my yap shut about the story.

I will say that it may be the most savage beating I've ever taken in a movie theater.

(I'd add "in a good way" if it were entirely true. I don't necessarily like getting the shit kicked out of me by a movie. But I certainly give it credit for doing so; it's no easy feat.)

It was a little weird to experience this just eight days after I did almost the same thing for the Sith premiere, going to a late-nite showing of an SF film mostly filled with truefans who'd waited in line for hours. The difference being that the audience here were way more fannish. Basically, Arisia came out for it.

Apparently, you had to be in the know to attend; the screening was hiding in plain sight at the Boston Common, and I think it was just the one show, though word is it's made one pass before, and might make another one before the film's real release in September. [livejournal.com profile] cthulhia's got the mad connections (and is a fan of the show) and brought me along. I didn't know what I was in for, even on that level; I just thought we were going to see a movie.

The experience was worth it, especially given the compare-and-contrast game I got to play with my memories of Sith night.

Do I want to see the series now? I'm not sure. Yes, probably. Right now I don't want to see much of anything else, though.

"Savage beating" in terms of "watching that movie was torture of the kind that I had only previously experienced when then tied me down, whipped out the ocular speculums, and made me watch Ishtar while Beethoven's 9th played in the background"?, or "profound emotional rollercoaster"?

Seeing Firefly is definitely worth it.

Damn! I wanted to see that. I thought I had no hope for scoring preview tickets.... hmmm.

I eagerly await the movie. Yes, I have the series (on-loan) and have watched all of the episodes twice, some three times. It is that good, mostly.

As for sith stuff...

I'm guessing you've seen this already, but if not:
