I only recently read the book myself - within the last year. I thought it was a bit heavy-handed, though I imagine if I'd read it when I was a teenager (when I first read Watchmen, which totally blew my mind, and I still enjoy reading), it would have felt very different. I take that back: I thought it was way heavy-handed, to the point where I had a hard time reading it. It's not that the subject matter bothered me, but the execution was lacking in many ways.
I did enjoy the British-specific bits of it, once I realized what the mask represented.
