Having a war on really made me want to play some more Civ (mumble), so I took my disc home from work yesterday. But then I found myself unable or unwilling to follow through on my plans to smash everyone else, and tried for one of the more peaceful wins instead. I managed to nab the space race win in 2049, one year before the game's timer runs out (when I would have won anyway, by having the highest score).

I also tried to get a diplomatic win, which hasn't happened for anyone in any of my games so far. Amusing: I managed to get the U.N. built in my country, and then answered "Yes" to the immediate "Hold secretary general elections now?" dialog box, just to see what would happen. What happened was that I lost the game instantly because I've been playing as an overbearing jerk and nobody voted for me. I think we all learned an important lesson today.

Going for a walk now, to air out my eyes and check out an apartment house that Mary told me about yesterday.
