I also got to help some cast members practice their lines, occasionally filling in for absent actors, a fun experience that also provoked a lot of personal recollection. While I hadn't actually performed on a stage-that-was-built-to-be-a-stage since junior high, throughout both high school and college I was frequently involved in dramatic readings and performing, and would give it my best, even if the audience comprised only my Contemporary English Drama classmates or whatnot. And I had completely forgotten about all that, until I found myself reading from Xeroxed, highlighted scripts for the first time in years. So: it's still been a while since I last acted, but not so long as I thought.
This is why I smile to think that I succeeded in meeting my ulterior motive of making some initial contacts (besides my friends) in local theater circles. I look forward to signing up to a couple of appropriate mailing lists, and hearing about the next auditions.
If I felt really motivated I could motor to the Common right now to see Macbeth and join
