Recently returned from an afternoon of helping [livejournal.com profile] tahnan and the rest of the theater group he's in set up props for their upcoming Happy Birthday, Wanda June production. For the most part I just sloshed paint onto things. Sometimes this was the correct action, and sometimes it was not: oops, I need more practice at drybrushing, it seems. Good thing I was doing only the first layer.

I also got to help some cast members practice their lines, occasionally filling in for absent actors, a fun experience that also provoked a lot of personal recollection. While I hadn't actually performed on a stage-that-was-built-to-be-a-stage since junior high, throughout both high school and college I was frequently involved in dramatic readings and performing, and would give it my best, even if the audience comprised only my Contemporary English Drama classmates or whatnot. And I had completely forgotten about all that, until I found myself reading from Xeroxed, highlighted scripts for the first time in years. So: it's still been a while since I last acted, but not so long as I thought.

This is why I smile to think that I succeeded in meeting my ulterior motive of making some initial contacts (besides my friends) in local theater circles. I look forward to signing up to a couple of appropriate mailing lists, and hearing about the next auditions.

If I felt really motivated I could motor to the Common right now to see Macbeth and join [livejournal.com profile] magid's potluck, but I'm just too pooped. Sorry, friends... (And the last play that I've seen with [livejournal.com profile] magid was another Macbeth which was really, really good... honestly, I hesitate to see a different production of the same title so soon after.)

That previous Macbeth was _well_ over a year ago...

Nothing wrong with an ulterior motive. See you at auditions in the fall! :-)
