(no subject)

Jim the Roboticist knew that his Guard unit was gonna be activated soon, and we learn with vague relief today that he's going to "The Big B", as he calls Bosnia, rather than the region everyone was fearing. Jim's been to Bosnia in this context before, so he's as OK with it as he can be, given everything.

I note this as background to the fact that he's been in a somewhat more military posture lately. So: today, I overheard him speaking with Dara. Something she said was obscured when cart rolled noisily across the hallway. Jim said, "Say again, over?"

I think that's a pretty cool thing to say.

Why yes, I am back at work. Things are going well book-wise, but I don't want to tell tales quite yet. It's that close to the end. I can tell you that I have done more writing in the last three days than I did over the last month. It's all about focus, I guess.

Larry Wall's gonna be interviewed on Slashdot! I look forward to that. The questions are already cheesling me off, of course... well, one in particular, and not even a question. One person asked him how he holds both a scientific mind and a religious lifestyle, and some yahoo answered "Simple: Faith." I am not cheesled because of the answer's content (with which I neither agree nor disagree) but because a) nobody asked you and b) it was 3: Insightful. I hope that that question is among those Larry answers, because his answer would fail to be a non-sequitur.
