prog: (what_you_say)
Why is it that my Mac's software clearly knows when I plug headphones into the machine, and yet offers no software-based way for me to keep separate volume settings for headphones and no-headphones? I was yet again sent to the floor just now through Groove Salad being blasted into my skull at maximum volume, which I use when trying to push noise through my iBook's feeble built-in speakers.

I wonder if there's an audio-output-device-has-suddenly-appeared/vanished Apple event or something I can capture, to do this sort of thing myself. Hum.

This has no relevancy to anything, but I just discovered that the boy who portrayed Bill Murray's perennial test subject in The Royal Tenenbaums (which I saw a couple of weeks ago) is a regular poster and reader of alt.religion.kibology (one of the two or three Usenet groups I ever read). I thought that was kind of neat. It's like discovering my own private Wil Wheaton!! No.
