Nov. 19th, 2002 02:17 am- It's been a cold but dry day, and the car still won't start. I hereby declare it Hosed. Too bad. Calling garage tomorrow, I guess. Shrug. I'm told that I should be hoping it's not the starter, so I'm working real hard on that.
- Got a good deal on a small bed at Sleep-a-rama in Harvard Square. It's being delivered Saturday. I was feeling really proud of myself, and then all my friends filled me with pro-futon FUD, making me feel like I made the purchase too hastily. I ponder canceling the order in favor of a futon, but I hate doing things like that, and I'm sure I will be happy when it comes. Maybe. Argh.
- While I may curse the company, every individual I've spoken to at AT&T regarding this billing matter has been pretty sharp. We solved the puzzle today; the money owed comes from the AT&T broadband phone bill, a separate account from the AT&T broadband cable bill, and once whose statements I never received, due to financial fusterclucking at Chestnut house. I said I'd pay the debt ASAP. The debt collection people aren't set up to take credit card payments, though, so I hope I'll have the mental presence to successfully mail them a check tomorrow. Sigh.
I'm getting kind of sick of Fallout 2, mostly due to the fact that traveling on the world map is both ridiculously lethal (at least at early levels) and something you have to do rather often. It's like how bad IF games include instant-death rooms, except with an element of randomness thrown in, just for spite. I know exactly where to go and who to talk to next in order to solve the little questicle I'm on, and it's even a city I've visited before, but the game won't let me go there, as I keep getting attacked by bands of heavily-armed robbers with no chance of escape. On my third or fourth reload, I told it, "OK, one more time," and it killed me again. And yet, I have no choice if I want to solve this quest; I have to keep reloading until dumb luck decrees that I make it over safely.
This isn't fun. It's not even playing a game; it's trying to get a broken machine to work by hitting it until it starts. Rr.
