I've decided to go ahead and post my ad on bostonapartments.com. The trick was to leave out my phone number. (Actually, I left it as "please email".) I figure that this makes it easier for me to filter people who clearly lose. See for example the one response I already got, from a person asking who said he needs to move in May (while the ad explicity said June 1) and misspelled "ad", the sort of mistake that signals (at least in native English speakers) that the person probably doesn't read much, and hence probably wouldn't be a very good fit, as they say.

I guess I'll do some bullet-biting and post to a local social mailing list or two, since some friends on alien lists have offered to do this for me.

Happy Dance

A positive slashdot review! (Though I have not read the comments, and am semi-sure I kind of don't want to, this being Slashdot and all.) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] queue for the notification. With luck, Slashdot will continue the trend it started with Perl & XML and post dupe reviews every so often with increasingly better marks.

The latter half of this article about coalition soldiers' (and one BBC reporter's) explorations of an abandoned presidential palace reads like a bit too much text adventure game, to me. I think I was tipped off by the strange choice of words about soldiers adding items to their inventory, but the one-sentence paragraph about the pavillion was just way too on-style. I had to stop myself from typing X BARBECUE into my browser window.
