Went to a reading of Alcestis this evening. In attendance were a bunch of folks, some of whom I recognized from my little bit of work on the Wanda June set, sitting around a table and taking turns reading through the whole play. Fun! I ended up reading all of Chorus 2's bits. One fellow who read a major character's lines gave a particularly stunning performance for an informal cold-reading. (Even if he had practiced beforehand, he still didn't have foreknowledge that he'd be reading that particular character's lines.) Most people there were less scary than that, fortunately.

End result is that I now have a better idea which character(s) I'd like to try for. Pretty good. I'm feeling pretty psyched about the auditions in two weeks.

The director (and hence everyone else) pronounces the title "Al-SESS-tiss", while Classics geek M is fairly certain that it ought to be "Al-KESS-teez". We'll see.

According to what WBUR just whispered into my ear, Gen. Clark has finally cast his hat into the Democratic ring. This is the fellow who used to command NATO, so, yeah, he's got both the military and foreign-affairs angles rather well covered, making him a complementary opponent of Dean for the primary, and someone who could become a devastating opponent of You-know-who, should it come to that.

Oh how very interesting.
