I was hoping this would be in Panther, and it is:

If you mount an external or remote disk (through the Finder's "Connect to Server" command, or by plugging in an iPod or something) and then said disk vanishes while the computer is napping -- very common if, for example, you close your laptop at work and re-open it at home -- you instantly receive an admonitory dialog box, and then the machine quietly unmounts the missing volumes. Time was (in 10.2.x and before) that an application (especially the Finder) would hang as soon as it tried to access the undefined branch of its filesystem. Sometimes you could wriggle out by relaunching the Finder, and sometimes you could wait for it top time out, but sometimes there was naught to do but reboot.

Having been caught by this countless times with my two laptops, it's very nice to see this bug gone.

Wired on Phil Dick and movies. I'm really surprised at the number of PKD film adaptations coming out -- yow. I will forgive the existence of Total Recall (which I found pornographic in its excess) if all these titles meet or exceed the quality of Minority Report, both in faithfulness to source and artistry of film.

A clever Matrix-parody ad (Windows Media format) for Bangor's NBC-affiliate weather coverage, featuring local meteorologists in leather. (Link from [livejournal.com profile] kyroraz.)
