It's the little things that getcha
Feb. 11th, 2004 03:37 pmI got a letter from a housemate of two years ago (from my short stay in Cambridge, after the lay-off) with whom I haven't had any communication in about as long. Just a "Hello, what's new?" And I said, aloud: Aw, nice! A little disarmed by the random niceness. Tra la.
SF29 is only a few days away! Full list of movies up on the website.
Lileks has been talking about his success with his own Atkins-ish variant. Which is apparently just: eat sensibly, but take care to lay off the desserts & bread. I've decided to try pursuing this myself, since I like to think I'm already eating OK. I'm not at all overweight but I do have a breadbasket, and it's not so much the presence of body fat as the disproportion that bothers me; I'm rather skinny everywhere else. I'd be psyched to be able to wear a T-shirt unselfconsciously, when spring comes 'round.
There's also a desire to escape what may be a genetic predilection to alarmingly large bellies in McIntosh men, visible in my dad (though not so much now as before his stroke, many years ago) and most especially one of my brothers, who looks pregnant. I'm nowhere near that bad (really, I look pretty typical for a full-time programmer) but I never want to start slipping that way, either.
