May. 13th, 2004 12:46 am* To MIT and the new Stata Center (a.k.a. the-building-that-looks-like-it-was-dropped-from-a-great-height building) for lunch with N, whom I hadn't seen in many months, maybe in nearly a year; shameful. We caught up and had great pizza at Emma's. He lives at Powderhouse Square now.
* To Somerville Theatre, for The Triplets of Bellevue finally. Liked it as much as I thought I would.
* Spent the evening researching TiVo hacking, since I'd really love to extract video from my DVR and make CDs or DVDs from it. After a few hours of wandering through Web forums crowded with friendly folks and hairy trolls, I collected enough information to conclude that I can't do anything interesting right now, at least not with anything found in my house. The first step in making any TiVo hackable always involves removing the TiVo's hard drive and attaching it to an Intel-based PC, which I don't have. (From there, you boot the machine off a community-developed Linux CD, then run some scripts that perform magic on the TiVo's hard drive, including the placement of
telnetd
and ftpd
on it.) Something to mess around with later, anyway.* Tried to do something clever with my router, and blew up my LAN. Had to redo everything I did Saturday, modulo the figuring-out part. Won't do that again.
Now it's after midnight and feels like... some other time of day. The chirping birds outside might be helping with disorientation. This no doubt from the massive sleep surplus amassed this morning. I don't really feel like doing anything productive, though.
