It's nigh on 11 am on Origins Day Three (Of Five) and I haven't left my room yet. Had a great night's sleep (I didn't sleep much at though the night before, though I tried) and I have a headache coming on -- uh oh. During Origins 2002 I ignored the headache I got, and in so doing became more violently ill than any previous time I care to remember. My Bostonian buddies (who had to listen to me making dreadful noises that night) are looking out for me in this regard, making sure I packed medicine and am staying hydrated (this latter from self-knowledge I have earned in the last two years; until recently I was pretty stupid about drinking enough straight-up water (without diuertics mixed in!!) and even worse when abroad). So as I write this I am consuming two glasses of water (which I could chug effortlessly, suggesting my body is in fact starving for it) with two Excederin, along with two mugs of Hotel Coffee (surprisingly Not Bad), this latter to wake up both brain and gut, which has been acting sluggishly since I subjected it to Not Very Good Room Service Pancakes yesterday. Mm... probably more water in very immediate future. If you know what I know, you would agree that my condition from two years ago is really not worth experiencing again.

Still have barely played any games! Did a round of Aquarius with some rabbits last night just to kill time while waiting for [livejournal.com profile] cthulhia to ferret out some werewolves; that's about it. (Just as in 2002, Are You A Werewolf? is enormously popular among the con's under-21 crowd (or at least that fraction of it cool enough to wander away from the CCG tables now and again), and they play it continually all night long.) I really want to play some games, and am sure to amend this today and tomorrow! I dunno if I'll do any Looney tournaments, though.

Oh, did attempt the Fluxx tournament, got pounded into the sand across two games by a coupla kids, gothy-girl and goofy-boy. (The chief strategy of goofy-boy was to make me feel v. sad by talking like Meatwad from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The other people at the table found this high-larious and responded in kind; roll out the Monty Python and Weird Al quotes!! Jeeeeezus. That game wasn't over fast enough.)

(I can't blame the kids; when I was their age, I too had a half-formed sense of teh funnay. With luck and practice they will get a clue and become geniuses like me.)

I didn't pack enough shirts. I remember thinking on Wednesday OK, time to go fetch my shirts, and I guess I got distracted on my way to my closet and forgot. Doh. So I'm wearing a "Time Repair Agency" T-shirt I bought from Andy Looney yesterday, and my long-sleeved cotton gray shirt over it... it's maybe too warm for long sleeves but I've already worn both of the other button-down shirts I brought, weh. (And I don't like wearing only a T-shirt.)

Mood swings: I am oscillating rapidly between being sick of people and wanting to be closer to people. This is actually normal, just more intense than usual here.

I think this may be my last Origins, at least an an ordinary attendee. Yesterday was good, but two and a half more days of it seems a little unnecessary. Much of my reasons are the same as my reasons for no longer attending SF cons, and my earlier declaration of divestment from All Fandoms (incl. Looney fandom). But more than that, I sort of want to do other things now, and so part of me is going to feel increasingly cranky about being stuck in Columbus until it's time to go back to work. I shall do my best to distract it by doing many different things while I am here.

Oh boy, the coffee is starting to work... I think I can feel those pancakes in transit, finally. Thank you, jmac! You are welcome. Headache ebbing too... joy. Time to put my shoes on. Have a nice weekend!
prog: (zendo)
Was miserably sad for just missing the start of the Zendo tourney this morning, but ate a slice of warm bread and felt much better. Started talking to people and felt better still. I don't think I would have done well anyway; I'm ice-cold, this weekend. Did play some games, and lost all (often to newbies... which is the point, almost, when demoing games, but still), except for a round of Zendo. That's fine, really.

Got some interesting stuff lined up that will probably take up the rest of the Expo, for me... and not all of it in the program, ho ho ho. (Shrug.) (Sorry, nothing laviscious. All business for jmac.) Alas, I way overspent on generic tickets. 's all good.
