  • I finally disconnected my Verizon land line, which I haven't used in a year and a half or so... not since my TiVo learned to use the Internets. I was on the cheapest plan possible, so Verizon never got very upset when I went months without paying it. I mean, I never got a phone call from them. Oh, wait. I bet I did. Ha. Um... scratch that. Anyway, I finally disconnected it, so the biggest source of "la la la I enjoy pissing away money for no reason" in my life is finally gone.

  • The socks passed the day-test nicely. Unfortunately a sockscription does not offer significant savings over just buying single pairs from them, making it a rather hefty cash outlay. For socks. I need to decide now: be really lazy and spend some money to get great socks in the most joyful way possible, or buy a bag of perfectly-OK socks at Target for cheap? It's really not an easy question for me.

  • Then again I am about to spend a bunch of money on clothes anyway. Sometime this weekend or next week I'm going to give myself that makeover, to recognize the start of my adjusted career stance. This just means clothes and hair adjustment. Really I'm just going to stop dressing like Tom Peters and dress more like I did eight years ago. I think that, given changes to my age, location and personal direction since then, that particular look may suit me better now. For a confused kid in Bangor, it was just too much; I was aware of how I stood out. Here and now, I think it will blend in better. (Now watch as, having written all this, I become too lazy to actually do anything, doo dee dee.)

  • My old pal Donovan has resumed his online journal. I love his writing.

  • I have made my first credit card payment in years. (On my first credit card bill in years.) This is good. Already I can feel my credit rating knitting itself back together. DEEP HEATING

  • Since I have committed to not fleeing HMS anytime soon, I yesterday had Fidelity reset the password to my access to their website, so I can try figuring out what the heck I'm doing with my retirement thingy. (It's whatever the non-profit equivalent of a 401(k) is. I think.) For three years a good slice of my paycheck has been pouring into a money market, which might as well be a shoebox. Fidelity has a great web app that lets you slice up your pie however your like across a truly bewildering array of funds and indexes... a year ago I looked at it and said "Wow, this is great! I have no idea what any of it means!" and forgot about it. Determined to try again and actually have some effect, this time around. Will skulk around fool.com for advice, I guess.

Does this mean the game is available retail? Want want want.

I like how you can tell that DoW uses the same artist for all its artwork because he or she gives every person the same cheekbones. Seriously.

Also how's this for a backhanded blurb: "Shadows over Camelot is the perfect boardgame for thirty and fourty years old gamers who no longer have the strength to roleplay through a long night." wheeze
