I saw the Serenity sneak preview
May. 27th, 2005 12:55 amMovie hits you for 582 damage. You have died.
Because I haven't seen the TV series at all, I dunno how to describe any part of the film without accidentally dropping spoilers, so I'll just keep my yap shut about the story.
I will say that it may be the most savage beating I've ever taken in a movie theater.
(I'd add "in a good way" if it were entirely true. I don't necessarily like getting the shit kicked out of me by a movie. But I certainly give it credit for doing so; it's no easy feat.)
It was a little weird to experience this just eight days after I did almost the same thing for the Sith premiere, going to a late-nite showing of an SF film mostly filled with truefans who'd waited in line for hours. The difference being that the audience here were way more fannish. Basically, Arisia came out for it.
Apparently, you had to be in the know to attend; the screening was hiding in plain sight at the Boston Common, and I think it was just the one show, though word is it's made one pass before, and might make another one before the film's real release in September.

The experience was worth it, especially given the compare-and-contrast game I got to play with my memories of Sith night.
Do I want to see the series now? I'm not sure. Yes, probably. Right now I don't want to see much of anything else, though.
