Sep. 22nd, 2005 02:49 pmBusy and invisible lately; am a day or two behind on mailing lists and it will be a day or so before I can catch up.
Interesting things:
* Fun rehearsal on Tuesday. I think the show will be good and I'm glad I'm doing it, but I'm still going to be more careful about what I volunteer for in the future; enriching as they are, these things are serious timesinks.
The show by the way, is on October 14th, and if you're in the area then you should come: http://www.huboftheuniverseproductions.com/bin/events.html
* Got a call from an organizer of Tuesday's breakfast, wanting to know what I thought of it, presumably because he wanted to sell me a chamber membership. I told him about my experience, and he agreed I wasn't really the best fit, but gave me a URL for another local entrepreneur-oriented group I hadn't encountered yet: http://www.mitforumcambridge.org/ . Quite valuable; I just confirmed that the site exists, and I look forward to seeing what they're about. (In return, I agreed that I'd think of him should I ever need a good patent lawyer. It's not entirely out of the question, after all...)
Also got an email from another local businessman I met Tuesday, pitching someone else's resume at me. Probably not much I can do about that right now, but I do appreciate the evidence that I made an impression on someone at the breakfast, at least. It deserves a write-back.
* First shoot for the second episode of The Gameshelf last night. Four people played two games in the SCAT studio using real direction, camera, audio and lighting. (None of which I, as plain-old-Producer, had anything to do with, other than giving final approval to the crew's setup. This is certainly how I prefer to do things, ho ho.) I have imported all the tape into FCP and it looks and sounds great.
One bug is the height of the table we played on (commandeered from the SCAT lobby); it's a little too low, so closeups often have giant crotch/knee/hip shots looming over the entire top half of the frame. I will cherrypick the more attractive shots in post, so it's all good, but next time I might just bring my own card table over or something.
* Off to Manchester now, to rendezvous with my parents, there on business. They're handing over my circa-2001 iBook, which I requested back since I'm of course losing my nice G4 Aluminum to Harvard. (My former employers are being nice (as usual) and letting me dally with it a little while longer, but it's got to go to my successor within a month.)
It is a bittersweet reunion since my parents want to continue holding onto it; they keep meaning to figure out this whole Internet thing one day. They also like how the computer looks, affectionately nicknaming it "Whitey". But truth be told, I loaned it to them well over a year (maybe two years) ago, even bought them an ISP account, and they never really did anything with any of it. I have recommended a Mac Mini to them, if they want to get back into it under their own power later on.
