I saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire today. I found it brilliant, and maybe the first of the movies that I've really flat-out liked, instead of mostly liking for being a decent book adaptation. It really moved me.

Other stuff happened but am up way past bedtime so zzz.

Confidential to [livejournal.com profile] in_parentheses (I think it was you, anyway): I'm pretty sure that, in the book, it was clear that the children weren't actually in real danger, but the contestants didn't necessarily know this. Maybe someone has cleared this up for you already, though.

Nobody's here and I don't feel like workin'. Doop dee doo. I have done work today, but have failed to get into the zone. Maybe an hour or two of video games will fix this. Ohhh I suppose I can manage that.

Self-observation from yesterday's movie outing:

I actually kind of like hearing little kids babble during a movie's quiet parts as long as they're not too loud and they seem to be babbling about the story. I guess I always like it when people like movies that I like.

(Yes, there were in fact lots of very young children at this very PG-13 movie yesterday. It was PG-13 in the marrow, too... not one of the more common cases PG movie dusted with enough cussing and T&A to make the grade, or an R movie with patches of opaque kludge applied. Interesting to see.)

I drum my fingers at Skepticality. I can only admire Swoopy for making sure that the show's candle stayed lit during Derek's recovery, and I can understand her not wanting to turn it into the Derek Healthwatch Podcast, but I don't think she's been providing enough information to the show's many listeners. Specifically, I think she's assuming that all the listeners concerned about Derek are taking the trouble to follow the show's website-based message forums. (I did this at the beginning, when his condition was at its most grave, but stopped when it was clear that he was pulling through.)

So from the last couple of shows I've been able to pull from context that Derek has recovered enough that he'll be able to have a speaking role again, but apparently not enough to take back the show's reins. I feel that I've been left to make educated guesses as to why this is. I should write Swoopy & co. about this... after her very clearly worded announcement about Derek's collapse back when it happened, she should be able to say something equally clear about the state of his un-collapse.

FWIW I also admire Swoopy's decision to team with another podcaster, instead of trying to pull it along by herself. Frankly, Derek seemed to be the show's driving force, with Swoopy mainly there for salt. I hope the show can adapt to the changes forced onto it and survive as brilliantly as ever.
