The news

I hadn't been following the news directly, so I didn't know that the school was in Blacksburg until I saw it mentioned n a newspaper headline this morning.

My thoughts go out to my Blacksburgian friends.

Not long ago the [livejournal.com profile] dictator555/[livejournal.com profile] classicaljunkie symbiont introduced me to The Phantom Gourmet, a low-budget, high-spirited Boston-area restaurant review show that airs on TV-38, one of the old UHF survivors in this area. I realized while watching it last night that I kinda sorta want a show like this, except gamier. I will continue striving to emulate Good Eats, but I doubt I'll ever have that show's budget.

After episode 7 is in the can (we're building ep 6 now), I am going to consider pitching The Gameshelf as a series to actual TV stations, including local ones. It's very unlikely to get anyone's attention, but the attempt will be fun. (This isn't putting Volity in danger; should someone actually pick it up, I'd step back from contract programming for a while. The Four Pillars are safe and solid.)

In more feasible self-promotion news, I this afternoon started something I should have done a long time ago, going to various publishers' websites and posting links to Gameshelfs where we review those publishers' games. Google Video has a neat feature where you can add a timecode to a video's URL in order to cue up to that point, so I can link directly to relevant sections within the various shows.

I am a little self-conscious building new linkis to Gameshelfs from 2005 that are so flinch-inducingly rough compared to our more recent work, but they were good enough for me at the time, so.
