(no subject)

Set cellphone to start screaming at 7:30, wake up at 9:10 with alarm miraculously shut off. Have no memory of doing so, but it seems the most likely thing.

Going to have to go back to setting up two or three or more alarm clocks, I suppose. One in each room sounds good.

I've switched back to not using alarm clocks. This seems to be working well most days, but is much easier post-time-change.

I used to have multiple alarm clocks [in multiple rooms]. Acquisition of alarm clocks was based upon maximum volume.

About a year ago, I splurged $100 on a new alarm clock.

This one has a nice soothing sound, not the annoying radio or buzzer or anything like that. It also has a better solution to the "snooze" button... a progressively decreasing duration between "bongs". It first makes a sound at the set time, again at about five minutes thereafter, a third time after another three minutes, continuing until it it going off every 10 seconds or so.

It is supposed to wake you up more naturally, so that you can get a chance to "finish" your dreams and wake up more naturally, without the jarring buzzer that we just end up either ignoring or hurling across the room. I found that I started waking up more refreshed, and oftentimes (when I'm not in a serious sleep deficit) waking up a few moments before the alarm.

What cinched it for me was that it also has a nice timer feature. It works somewhat in reverse, giving progressively insistent warnings as it approaches the set duration -- very useful for meditation or curtailing those yet-one-more-item business meetings. I figured I could use it for that, if the alarm didn't work for waking me up in the morning.
