I can't call anyone a dink without people thinking that I wanted to say dick but used a childish substitution instead. This is actually not the case; I feel compelled to use the word without even thinking about it when I encounter a person who has an attitude that Ricky -- specifically Ricky -- wouldn't approve of. Now, he says it because in fact he actually can't bring himself to say swear words ever. But I have observed him apply the word to a very discrete range of inconsiderate behavior that irritates him, and so it's the first thing I think of now, when I see it.
