A swingin' I must go, I must go

I really like the Unhappy Birthday page for all the wrong reasons. Terrible truth about me: I hate that song and all that it stands for. I never sing it at anyone's birthday celebration, instead just standing there smiling and waiting for everyone else to get done with it. I find it thoughtless and trite, like small talk, or a prefabricated greeting card with watercolors of bluejays on the front and something printed in a cursive typeface on the inside.

Boy, I am the crankiest bastard in the world according to my own LJ posts today, huh.

Well my name it is Sam Hall, Sam Hall
Yes my name it is Sam Hall, it is Sam Hall
My name it is Sam Hall
And I hate you one and all
And I hate you one and all
Damn your eyes!

Looking forward to game night, anyway.

curmudgeon.

note to self: refrain from sending [livejournal.com profile] prog that very special card with blue jays you spent hours picking out after you discarded card after card with ladybugs, rainbows, and frolicking puppies on the front.

I'm not much of a fan of "HBTY" either, especially when sung in the work place - it just makes me feel igry. Singing it among friends is different for me, but I can appreciate how you might not care for it. (For your birthday, we can sing Sam Hall if you like. That's a great song.)

I just now listened to it about 50 times. I should make it the theme song to my TV show.

That would make a great theme song.

And if it's a talk show or something, you can end each show with something like, "That's all for tonight. I'm (your name or alias), DAMN YOUR EYES!" And then play it again over the end credits.

Wasn't the alias Hasib something?

Once, when I was having a shared birthday party with a couple friends, everyone there sang us the happy birthday song, and, without missing a beat, better than if we'd planned it, I and my two co-birthday people broke out singing the birthday dirge ("happy birthday. ugh. Happy birthday. ug. sickness sorrow and despair, people dying everywhere. happy birthday. ugh.)

Thanks! That's more than I'll ever need to know!

You do know they are being ironic, right?

As I said, I like it for all the wrong reasons.
