Joke or not, Location Earth Dogtags seem to be something you can actually buy. The text of the website sounds sincere except for the money-back guarantee, which seems intentionally worded for maximum irony. I have no idea.

I like that aliens will recognize that humans divide one another up by the difficult-to-see vector of who wears a skirt vs. who wears pants. Also that they will innately recognize a Robinson projection of earth continents.

Pulsars and solar systems works, though.

I am now of course thinking of my favorite episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus, where aliens where gradually turning all of the world's population into kilted Scotsmen, so that the aliens (who where only slightly better than the Scottish at tennis) could win the Wimbleton tournament. How deep does the conspiracy run?!

These are cute but the image seem to lack the reference values used in the Pioneer probes' engravings in order to obtain precise values for pulsar distances. I wouldn't trust these if I were abducted.

The Voyager Gold Record images did, however, include Mollweide Equal-Area Projections of Earth landmasses, past present and predicted future so featuring something like this on the keychain isn't too unreasonable.

If the aliens follow the line on tag and return you to the spot where it ends up in North America, it looks like you would end up in Bentonville, Arkansas, the new capitol of Planet Earth.

Dude, that's reason enough _not_ to buy the tags!
