Eastern Standard Tribe

During work break, popped in to the Ticket to Ride lobby again. During my visit last night, I noted that nearly all chat seemed to be in English. Now, during the American work day, it's almost entirely in German... and the server is way busier! I guess that by the time American players start to crowd in, it's hours after the server's daily prime time, all the Euro-players having gone to bed.

Nothing too surprising (and there's even been a short novel written around this phenomenon; see subject line), but fun to see it in practice unexpectedly.

I keep forgetting to buy Corey Doctorow novels ( or at least take them from the NESFA library)!

Don't bother with EST; it starts off promising everything, but in the end, fails to deliver. Down and Out was much better.

I was about to object (probably because I spent $$$ on getting a signed hardcover of the little book at WorldCon) but then I remembered that I don't recall anything about the book beyond the opening scenes (which feature some sexxxy near-future mobile device usage), even though I read it only half a year ago.

So, erm, yeah, what he said.

Big ol' weak-copyright nut that he is, Cory makes all his novels available for free online (and in a variety of formats, including plaintext), if you just want to read and not own them. http://craphound.com

_Down and Out_ had screwed-up people who were interesting and sincere. _EST_ has screwed-up asshats. I didn't like _EST_.
