[livejournal.com profile] queue finds 10th anniversary Settlers with 3-D landscape-style hexes and painted miniatures for pieces. Includes wudda robbers.

$400, though.

I heard about this in an email from Pandemonium. According to them, the price will vary depending on how many pre-orders there are, and they will only produce enough to fill pre-orders, and they're not going to produce this again.

I would strongly consider it if I were a Settlers junkie, but really I play it maybe two or three times a year, so it's not for me.

I guess I'm a Settlers junkie, or at least used to be, since I haven't played as much recently. I think the only way I would get it, though, is if I went in on it with a half dozen other people.

If I had my old good-paying job, I'd definitely splurge on something like this. Unfortunately these days I couldn't even afford to go in on it with a half-dozen people. :-(

What I really need to do is get a paying gig reviewing games, and then I can get the employer to spring for a "review copy".

I for one think it's hideous. It's perhaps somewhat attractive as artwork, but the small stripe of color on the roads seems to make it hard to tell one player's roads from another's, and all the gray in the other pieces makes them all sort of blend together for me.

Agreed. I'd rather have detailed plastic pieces in the standard colors, like in Domaine. That is, if I felt I had to monkey with the primal elegance of pentagonal-prism settlements and pizza-box-shaped city walls.
