In happier news

"Stella" on Comedy Central is friggin funny, and I give it my highest recommendation for anyone whose sense of humor is like mine. It's a "live-action cartoon", a category probably seen most recently in "Malcolm in the Middle", but I think it has more direct lineage to "Get a Life", the show I miss the most (and should really get on DVD sometime soon).

You know a show wins with me when a make-out scene, of all things, reduces me to tears of joy and applause.

Wow, really? I found myself agreeing with the Times reporter whose impression was that these three had been together for so long that they had found their own rhythm, which was impenetrable to anyone else. Favorite line: "Watching 'Stella' is even a little alienating, like listening to stoners crack themselves up at the mere thought of bagels or bears."

I've only seen two episodes of Stella so far, though I taped last night's and will probably thus watch it tonight. But, so far my reaction is that it's too wacky without being sufficiently funny, thus resulting in it being more ridiculous than entertaining. Well, third time's the charm, so I'll probably decide after tonight whether it's worth it to continue watching.

It reminds me more of the Three Stooges and the Marx Brothers (with a Queer Eye makeover, of course). It sometimes hovers near annoying for a while, but then something will just go over the top and make me burst out laughing (while yelling "what the fuck?")
