Test platform needed

Dear fellow local techno-weenies: anyone have a handle on a cruddy ol Windows box that I could wrangle for cheap? If it can connect to the Internets and run MSIE without explording or taking a minute to launch it's probably good enuff for my purposes.

That asked, what's the average price of a new bare-bones DIY PC nowadays? I dunno man, I use Macs and I don't even know much about them these days...

In other news a gaggle of preschoolers walking past the diesel saw a young couple with a baby and all stopped to say LOOK! A BABY! HELLO BABY!! etc, and the mother is bobbling the totally confused infant's arm up and down for the kids outside. And I have to admit that's pretty damn cute even to me.

If you don't mind older Windoze, I might be able to oblige. I'm in a fit of cleaning out crap from the baserment and I think I might have a fully installed win98 box that I'm getting ready to send to the crusher. It's likely a pentium class, and other than win98, I don't know if it'd run XP if you tried. Might be wort ha shot. Let me know if you're interested and instead of taking the hammer to it, I'll send it down there somehow (perhaps the kyroraz transport?).

My main criteria are that it can run the latest MSIE and the latest Java... I need it primarily for testing.

Dunno what you'd expect to pay for a DIY PC, but I've heard good things about PCs For Everyone in Kendall square, near the Galleria. You could probably call them up and ask questions.
