I saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire today. I found it brilliant, and maybe the first of the movies that I've really flat-out liked, instead of mostly liking for being a decent book adaptation. It really moved me.

Other stuff happened but am up way past bedtime so zzz.

Confidential to in_parentheses (I think it was you, anyway): I'm pretty sure that, in the book, it was clear that the children weren't actually in real danger, but the contestants didn't necessarily know this. Maybe someone has cleared this up for you already, though.

You are correct. In the book, Harry feels really stupid afterwards for taking the danger at face value.

I regretably never read the Harry Potter books but one thing I noticed about this movie was that of all the HP movies so far this one 'felt' like stuff was cut out of it. The others may have had stuff taken out as well but this latest one felt the most disjointed as things come at you and go away with little fanfare.

Well, but *they* must have been scared, don't you think? Especially Fleur's little sister. I'm sure they were told there was no real danger, too, but they were still magicked and tied up underwater; that'd freak anyone out.

Plus, the dragons, etc. were all real dangers for the contestants.

The "prizes" were unconscious the whole time they were underwater. That's pretty clear in the movie.

(Actually, it's pretty clear that they're dummies in the movie. That was one place the visual effects fell down.)

And the danger is supposed to be real for the contestants, but not the other participants.
