Free six-hour Coulton download, kinda

Jonathan Coutlon fans would do well to investigate the free availability of John Hodgman's The Areas of my Expertise via the iTunes Music Store. It is read by the author, and Mr. Coulton provides the theme song and occasional musical interludes, as well as playing the straight man whenever Hodgman's reading turns into a dialog.

I haven't read the print copy of the book, but the audio version is clearly more of an adaptation for radio than a simple reading, and it's a real treat. I've listened to around two of the 6+ hours of the whole thing so far and have been mightily amused.

I echo this recommendation! I've already listened to a fair chunk and it's hysterical. Good stuff.

The book is frequently hilarious in that dry New England WASP nutcase kind of way.

His humor is bone-dry (my favorite kind), enough that I wondered if it was correct to call Coulton's role "straight man" since to me that implies a setup-punch yuk-yuk comedy structure. But really it just means that of the two of them one is the comedian and the other is there for salt, and that can apply to any sort of styling.
