Promoting Jmac's Arcade

OK, so I wanna hold myself to my earlier promise to promote Jmac's Arcade upon publication of episode 4. I am not sure how to go about this. Any ideas?

I started to kick around the production of a very short (<= 20-second) promo but I am skeptical of how effective it would be on other podcasts, since I'm assuming most of them would be audio-only. Not that I can't make an audio version too, but meh.

Hm, and now that I think of it, I am quite hesitant to stick other podcasts' promos onto the JA episodes, since I want to keep them very short and entirely self-contained. So promo-trading deals with other podcasts may just not work at all.

Anyway, I'd like to hear any other promotion idears y'all might have.

Maybe I just need to get more snuggly with the podcasting community, of which I suppose I am by definition a member, but to which I've put very little time or effort in reaching out.

Hmm, the only podcast I actually listen to with any regularity is a BBC podcast and I found that through the official website... so that's not too much help.

There's the usual stuff like making the website more inviting, giving it more of a promotable web-presence. Then you can trade links with similarly themed content, not necessarily podcasts but web comics, game blogs etc. There's a particular niche that would enjoy these so it makes sense to target that.

Hmm... do you have specific critiques about the website? (http://arcade.jmac.org)

It's just a bit... plain. Functional. Given the subject of the podcast I'd expect a bit more in the way of retro-themed graphics, for example. Something to make it stand out. Wouldn't have to be much... I'm out of practice but I could try to knock together a concept to give you some idea what I'm talking about.

Mmyes. I have a nifty logo idea in mind, actually, which will be the detail of a future post.

If you wanted to make a mock-up I'd humbly ponder it, but either way your suggestion is grokked.

I always find that I appreciate a website a lot more if I don't have to scroll. Having the full screen of latest video viewable without having to scroll would make it seem more accessible or friendlier or something to me.

If it's worth $35 to you, what about:

http://www.somethingpositive.net/advertise.shtml

Or you could try something like suggesting a link at Wonderland or some other appropriate site.

Nah, I'd rather not spend money like that. (And anyway I don't like that comic.)

Hadn't heard of Wonderland; thanks. I have been pondering submitting a link to BoingBoing but am hesitant due to self-perception that blowing my own horn like that is lame.

Many of the things on Wonderland end up on BoingBoing anyway, so might actually have a better chance of ending up on Boingboing by submitting a link to Wonderland than by submitting a link to BoingBoing (assuming that Wonderland gets fewer link submissions, and that a post to Wonderland carries more weight than a link submission to BoingBoing).

I like the cut of your jib, mister.
