OK poop is coming out

Blurb to put into your conference ad if you don't want me to come:

There was so much energy in the room - with everyone taking pictures, blogging, podcasting, and twittering - it was reminiscent of SXSW.

Why yes, I have set up a twitter thing, though I update it maybe twice a week currently (I'm "jasonmcintosh"). And I might go anyway - eh, it's $50, and I could stand to punch up my local network a little. But that description just makes me blanch, still.

I love that I knew this was about Twitter just from seeing the subject line.

yeah, that sounds wholly unappealing to me too, like all the cell phone ads that suggest that you can stay "connected" by completely ignoring the actual people you're with.

loud twitter especially is a menace to LJ.

A loudtwitter post appeared in an LJ on my (extremely small) f-list and I thought, "Oh my god I'm going to have to drop them!" Fortunately it was a one-time thing.

one of my favorite LJ people started twittering, mostly, as is often the case, because of a female he fancied, and of course he has to loud twitter every day. Thankfully, he cuts them, and I've stopped reading.

But then, I started reading livejournal because of a female I fancied. (Eons ago.)

It's damn-kids-get-offa-my-lawn all the way down.

Twitter is just so unappealing to me.

I totally agree with you.

I'm not really so negative about it, but it's not hard to see why so many are. Praise for Twitter more often seems to take the form of apologia.

The idea of a bunch of people sitting around twittering... ugh.

Curiously, I googled "there was so much energy in the room" and the only quote I could see that was worse was this gem:
"There was so much energy in the room, so much excitement with the leadership. It's indescribable. This company is going to go into momentum this year. Mark my word."
Mind you, that is a LOT worse.

Twitter is great because it keeps a lot of that self-indulgent noise off other channels of communication. You can just ignore everything on Twitter and the signal-to-noise ratio of the entire internet increases.

OMG that entire press release is a laff riot.
"I've been in network marketing for 17 years, and I've never seen anything like this in my entire life," said Jimmy "the Butcher" Smith from Westchester, Penn., at the conclusion of the event. "This event was the no. 1 event I've ever attended."

And it just keeps getting better.

The whole article is a fascinating glimpse into a strange other world full of INEXPLICABLY ENTHUSIASTIC people.

"'We're going to have to pull you off the ceiling when you see the new Web site.'"

"Upon hearing IsaFuel was hulled hemp seed, the crowd exploded with a level of excitement that approached mayhem."

This has to be some kind of pyramid scheme, right?
