The gravity of Gustav is starting to get through to me. (As is the possibility that we can now expect "100-year storms" every couple of years or so.) It looks like it could be worse than Katrina.

On the off chance anyone reading this lives on the northern Gulf coast: what can I say? Be safe. Consider leaving. Like, now.

In other news, if you're buying that shit about Palin's baby (which I won't even dignify with a link), please put it down and back away from it. You do not want that; it is beneath you. There are so many more legitimate (and far less creepy) attack angles, if you wish to make attacks. Leave the kerning for the wingnuts.

It sounds as if "worse than Katrina" is no longer likely. Jeff Masters is saying that the rebuilt levees should be able to handle the storm surge if they perform as designed, which is, as we all know, an open question (Katrina weakened and shifted before landfall, and they were supposed to be able to handle the surge then). It's definitely not a 100-year storm.

Oh, I thnk I know the 'palin's baby' thing you were talking about, since the interesting twist that's come up.

So, Trig is not Bristol's, cause, well, Bristol is having her own now.

Huh.

Interesting how the right and the evangelists are going to handle this part.

As we've all commented about in the newsroom, she'll (Sarah) be the most interesting part of the ticket as she's the least vetted of all. But then, with as little experience as she has, she has less to be vetted for.

It's going to be an interesting race, I think.

And, in the end, I think she'll end up being our first female VP. As much as I might not like that outcome for the whole Iraq/Afghanistan/Iran thing. Oh, and our civil liberties.
