About ACORN

Rachel Maddow presents a good summary of the ACORN foo-rah and why it's a total crock:

I hadn't heard of Ms. Maddow before [livejournal.com profile] toddalcott started linking to her recently. I really like her stuff now.

I liked her as a regular on Tucker Carlson's show a few years back, but I tuned into her Air America radio show a couple times and didn't get into it. She seems kinda knee-jerky/talking-points-ish. But, honestly, it is nice to see talking points from the other side on TV for a change (because, for one thing, they're more likely to be factual).

I kind of like her Air American radio show even though I suspect it stretches some truths now and then. She does have a pretty good counter-spin to the right-wing spin machine.

It's like if Keith Olberman had breasts.

;)

Aside from the fact that no, it really isn't, I find Rachel Maddow much more watchable than Keith Olberman. Olberman is really angry and he lets his anger sound in every single word. I get tired of it quickly. Rachel Maddow is more amused and as a result, gently but pointedly mocking.

that's a pretty obnoxious comment.

[identity profile] keimel.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay, so is Keith.

oh, you're right. finding olbermann obnoxious is a great reason to reduce women to boobies.

Wow, really? REALLY?!

The comparison was that they act in similar manners is offering their dispute of certain people in the political machine - their presentation styles are quite similar. One has breasts. One doesn't. I failed to mention other differences, cause I was making a funny. Thus, the smiley.

Sorry you failed to recognize the smiley as an indication of humor.

*WHISTLE*

Time out for both of you. Five minutes.

[identity profile] mrmorse.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't actually direct address this in my first comment, even though I was motivated by it. Saying Maddow is like just like Olberman except she's a girl is problematic enough, even with the smiley. Reducing her to her body parts is significantly worse.

This one clip linked? very similar.

First impression of this person? Very similar to Olberman (and his clips of which I have seen).

And yes, all I've watched is the clips of these people. So now, please everyone jump on and say "Oh, you're totally misjudging because... "

But if all people are going to link to from people like these is clips, then that's what they're going to get opinions on.

OK, lookie:

keimel made the comment "She reminds of of Olberman!" in a somewhat clumsy way, bringing in the fact she's a woman in a bid for extra cheekiness that fell flat. (sorry dude, it happens to all of us)

In so doing he set up sexist-language yellow flags that tripped up other friends of mine who are watchful of such things, and up go the hackles. Tonight's a tense night politically, so they maybe growled a little.

Oh no! There is an Internet in the way! All further conversation is reduced to FIRE! BAD! in the middle of my own LJ while I'm trying to liveblog over here.

In conclusion, this is a silly thing to get upset about so please everyone stop. Thx. :P

More clarification, since sources inform me it is needed:

By "This is a silly thing to get upset about" what I mean is "This conversation is in danger of snowballing emotional levels for reasons that have very little to do with the original dispute. Please check yourselves."

Please do not misunderstand your awesome pal jmac who is very smart and loves you all and appreciates your comments and wishes to encourage all further discussion and response about anything in all future internetical fora. OK!

she's super hot these days; EW did an article about her and [livejournal.com profile] colorwheel has been digging on her for several weeks now.
