Hi, everyone. How are you doing.

Heart in throat from an online interaction that went sideways—the less said the better—I close that window to find this one. I follow some of you via my RSS reader, you know, and after one of you posted recently I felt curious about the state of my DW account, and specifically my reading page.

Well: folks are still posting. Hey! I'm really happy to see it. Even if not everyone has happy news all the time, per se... I'm glad we're still sharing it, in this form, some of us. I'm quietly honored to find myself still on a few friend-lock lists.

One of my less likely online spaces is a Discord server whose population skews zoomer. I was talking with one of em yesterday about online intergenerational conversation, and they said "Well, I'm Kik, you're Myspace." "More LiveJournal, man," I corrected. "What's that?" they said. So missing those days of more thoughtful, slower, longer-form social media was front-of-mind yesterday when I opened that window—and then almost immediately layered other stuff on top of it, because I live in the future too, and my brain is just as broken by current anti patterns as everyone else's.

I'm trying to be better about it. I am. I have severely scaled back my Twitter usage, both scrolling and posting, since January 2021, and not for the reasons you immediately think based on that sentence. (But also, not not for those reasons.)

I dunno if I'll use this regularly. Probably not? I feel like using it today. Here is a summary of my life right now. Things are honestly pretty good with me and mine, much as I miss some of the ways things used to be. My new purple-dude icon by the cartoonist Flynn Nichols, and I commissioned it last year. I guess that's all I have right now.
