Brief observation: Bush &c. are invoking the Big Guy's name (or at least his title) a whole heckuva lot lately. Most presidents, including our current one, certainly haven't been stingy in passing out the may-god-blesses for easy speech conclusions and so on, but this administration is getting rather pulpital of late. I find these new super-sized sound bites about whom we should pray for and where various high-profile departed souls are flying a touch besquirmifying

One of my profs said the president's approval rating is as low as Clinton's during Monica's time, although I haven't checked this for myself. The prof has a polticial opinion page at this link (HTTP://cogsci.ucsd.edu/~sereno/war.html)

I respect the prof's convictions, if not necessarily his amplitude; I'd like to see a reliable cite for the "We killed millions of Vietnamese civilians" claim.

Also, IIRC, one of the wacky effects of the Monica scandal was that Clinton's approval rating went up...
