I found the apartment building. Big and beautiful (and dark green, one of my favorite colors), it looks like a brand-new building, even though it's on top of Davis Square; I guess whatever was there previously was knocked down, unless it was a parking lot or something (unlikely). Going to call them Monday. Its location probably makes it pretty pricey, and so I suppose I'd better come up with a limit now. My first apartment here was $1,200/month, which I could manage OK, on a smaller salary than I have now. And that was an ugly apartment (one giant, square room with an accordian divider, blah) in a do-nothing neighborhood. I suppose I'd pay more for a handsome apartment right on the square. We'll see how much more, I guess.
I really want to break out of my cycle of annual (or worse) moves, which I've been stuck in for many years. I thought Minas Morgul would last for at least a couple of years, but it didn't. And I think I would rather have a little place all to myself, at the end of the day. (And in the mornings, too.) Well, the timing here may be auspicious; the house clearly isn't quite ready for tenants yet, with its parking lot marked off but not yet filled in (at least, I'm assuming that gravelly pit is the future parking lot and not the world's worst Zen rock garden) but I bet it will open right when my current lease runs out.

Date: 2003-03-23 05:50 am (UTC)The downstairs apartment in my old place in Malden is going to be available
soon. I plan to spend the month of April fixing it up, and then rent it out May 1st or thereabouts.
First floor 5-room apartment in Forestdale neighborhood of Malden, in a
shady back lot on a quiet cul-de-sac. A fellow Suspect lives on the second floor (Pookie).
Rooms: Big kitchen, LR, bathroom, 2 bedrooms.
Spacious for a one-bedroom-with-study for a single professional, or cosy
for a 2-bedroom, might work well for a young couple. Previous tenants stayed there for 6 years.
Hardwood floors, washer-dryer and dishwasher provided, storage space in
basement,& use of quiet shady side yard.
Walkable to Oak Grove (orange line) T (15 minute walk, not super close, but
you can live there and work downtown without a car). Bus to Malden Center 2 blocks away.
No off-street parking, but it's a quiet, safe street, and street parking is
usually pretty convenient.
We'll set the rent at slightly under market rates, have to check and see
what's fair these days- it will probably be in the 900-1000 range.
