I succeeded yesterday in crash-cleaning the apartment, including the bathroom (shudder), insofar as the landlords said that the place looked really nice. They were also only too happy to give me another week to make a final decision about my own staying here. Cool.

Had an interview with the one person who has responded to any of my ads or emails. A nice enough fellow with a nice enough grilf (also present), but of the sort that a past self would characterize as a "Chad", a ballcap-n-sweatshirt-wearing dude majoring in sports medicine at Northeastern. I'm sure I could live with him if I had to, but he's not the sort of person I was hoping to find. Deedle dee.

I'm now thinking it's almost inevitable I'll choose to move. Have already set up an appointment to look at a place on Chester Street (where Redbones is) on Saturday. It's apparently a sunken apartment (i.e. the ground outside is at windowsill-level) and the realtor confessed difficulty in finding an occupant, apparently for that reason alone. I wouldn't know why, though; am I missing something? Guess I'll find out.

ground-floor apts with windows are more likely to be broken into through those same windows, sometimes the rent is lower and a lot of times girls feel uncomfortable living in them. probably renters insurance rates are higher as well.

IMHO, I hate floors that are below ground or below another floor, for the same reason why sometimes work drives me crazy. I hate the sound of people walking around on my ceiling, it's just mildly perturbing. And since the office is right beneath the main hallway for the building, the sounds of little pitter patter of children's feet is more disturbing than anything.

Privacy thing too -- feels like there's always someone (all the someones walking by) right outside your window.

I think my biggest issue is that often apparments like that tend to get less sunlight. It can be murky and gray all the time.

Some people prefer more sunlight than you're likely to get in that sort of apartment. Also are more vulnerable to flooding. Those would be my primary objections to such an apartment. Interestingly enough, even when I was a young woman living alone, the ease of break-in was never a criteria I considered when looking at apartments (though reputation of neighborhood was).

What other people said about enough light, also the flooding possibilities, and sometimes lower ceilings than usual (some friends had a basement apt with low ceilings and pipes running below that - convenient for hanging things up, but otherwise a pain).

Depending on the place, that may also mean more people coming by to do laundry, or stuff like that, too.

The problem with folks like these, especially if you don't already have your own girlfriend, is that while you're away they're going to probably find an excuse to humpa-humpa on just about ever piece of furniture in the house just to show off. This includes the kitchen table and YOUR bed.

Show up in a mole fursuit and say "This seems molest suitable... I'll take it!"
