iraqi museum looting

"If there were five American soldiers at the door, everything would have been fine," Amin said about the museum. "They're supposed to be here to protect us. They should be protecting us."

Let's look at that quote again ""They're supposed to be here to protect us. "

Even is that were true, they've DONE that, which leaves you there alive and talking and complaining about your own people stealing from your own museum. _you_ were protected. Your antiquities were not.

Now, to the premise that they were there to protect you, well, not, not really, we were there to remove the regime. They were there to FREE the people, not necessarily protect them.

While the loss of the antiquities is a shame and certainly criminal, iraqis are the people stealing from the museum. Could we be more helpful in protecting some things? Probably. Should we be risking soldiers lives for the protection of furniture in a Ministry office? No. Not at all.

p.s. Washington Post login stuff - if you're over 103 years old, you can't see their articles. any year input before 1900 doesn't work
