It pleases me that my relationship with Maine -- the Kennebec valley region, specifically -- continues to stay strong. Despite all my badmouthing, my interest in the Waterville area is maintained by interesting people continuing to move into and through it, making it more socially (and technologically) dynamic that it may seem at first. More than two years after I left, it keeps giving me reasons to come back from time to time. I suppose I'll adopt a new policy of not complaining about it anymore.

A few days ago I gave official notice of my intention to move, and today the first looker-throughs came, herded by a fellow from the realtor we originally got this place from last year. I have not called them about my own needs yet; I'll give them a drop-by on Monday.

Bought an inexpensive (< $100) surround-sound speaker+subwoofer system from Micro Center this afternoon. You know it's working when the first horse hoof hitting the road during Ico's intro cinematics goes WHOMP and makes you jump. And then you hear birds behind you while the leaves rustle all around. Big deal, yeah, nothing new, but I've never enjoyed video games in my own home like this before. Excellent

Hmmm. Waterville

Badmouthing Waterville is kinda counter-productive, but I do understand you thoughts here as I once lived in a rather large metropolitian area and I really do miss the ability to go and do something ... interesting ... and doing such with complete and utter spontaneity. Gameworks? Sure! Random 3 am Wal*Mart run? Sounds like fun! Driving into the middle of nowhere? Sounds good to me! Going to a very large Medevil Fair in the middle of the desert while it's super hot and watch Ded Bob Sho insult people in the audience and eating meat on a stick? I'm there!

Waterville does lack this charm. The only thing equivilent to that here is going to the 24 Wal-Mart for the shoulda been Slack card for Chez Geek and when I go, there's no entourage, no group to go with, and no zany attempts at cross-language encounters when trying to buy things from people who unfortunately can only speak Spanish. That and people here seem disenchanted with driving long distances to places simply because ... they're there and I haven't been there. I guess I have this unquenchable thirst to go places, do things, and figure out what's over the next curve. Arizona lent itself to this philosophy quite well.

Wow. Rant.

But I am here and I wish good fortune in your friends, Jmac, to find happy productive lives and careers here in Waterville, whatever they may be. My purpose is to exist here for the moment and my healing and recovery from The Evil Ones out there proceeds. This town does have charm. Jorgy's. Ummm ... Jorgy's .... and my I mention Jorgy's ... oh, and ... umm ... Waterville House? No.... Maybe Pad Thai ... Or Asian Cafe...

It's kinda sad that I just mentioned food only. I stop now. But I think I know where those extra 15 pounds came from. Warn your friends of the "Waterville 15".

And Railroad Square! Food and cool movies, too. And... uh, Augusta has other stuff in it, and it's not too far away. :)

And there's the brick oven pizza place by railroad square.... And the mexican place in the same building as railroad square which I've never been to (but looks tastier than marg's in Augusta, which is a known quantity).

The Waterville <> Augusta area is not Bangor or Boston or the Bay Area (SF Bay Area that is) but that's really Ok! And more cool people moving here is good (1).

(1) with-in limits, we wouldn't want everyone to move here, after all.
