For the moment, el laptop gets around 5 hours of power on a good day, good charge, and if the planets are aligned right.
I can understand some of these people though because I like to plug in whenever I can. Catching an outlet, I've noticed as I've gone across country a few times with the iPaq (which barely gets a hour of life per charge, especially with the 802.11b card in it) that a lot of public places just don't like you plugging in. Not that it stopped me in Boston when I plugged in for a few minutes when I found a "maintenance only" plug.
