progI took I-93 south for the first time this evening. For some reason, I didn't know it went straight through Boston, past those strange bulls-eye signs on the bridges, and the famous Ho Chi Minh gas tank, both of which figure prominently in memories of frequent childhood excursions to South Station. I've seen these things since moving here, but unexpectedly encountering them while traveling under my own power was pretty nice.
When I took I-93 north to come home, I smiled to drive through pretty, night-lit metro Boston for the first time (and in light traffic), and rode over the new bridge... which honestly came as a surprise, because I didn't really know what road said bridge was a part of. This discovery made me laugh a lot.
Now that I'm home, Mad World is going through my head again, rrngn. I'd go get a decaf but I've spent enough money this weekend. I'll just make some tea, and play Herdy Gerdy until I'm sleepy. Mm.
(Hmm: the inevitable search in the iTunes Music Store returns a hit for Tears For Fears' (orginal?) version of the song, which has the same lyrics and basic melody as the theme from Donnie Darko but is otherwise completely different, so people who have not seen the movie but do know the song are probably wondering why I think it is so melancholy. Oh well.)
