Yay, Gigli scores a zero on the tomatometer, as of this writing. First one of those I've seen in a while. Not sure why I so very much wanted this movie to fail; probably something to do with all the T ads. So many T ads. Those posters cleverly placing the title inline with the female lead's celebrated aft protuberances. Well, so be it.

Already disappointed by Maher's blog. He's apparently just writing down monologue-style jokes about news items as he thinks of them, so each graf keeps to a strict setup/zinger format, one after the other, on and on. It doesn't really work in print, which has very different rules of comic timing.

His grammar's a little fudgy, too, which suggests that he doesn't normally write this frequently, and ironically this makes his blog a little more interesting: here's a smart, opinionated, more-or-less famous guy who has found a channel for daily spoutations because weblogs are neat, to which I say hear hear. But, still, I have to hold out hope that he'll get the hang of it in time. (Or give up entirely.)

Booty calls

That picture of her shapely ass was reportedly downsized from the original photo by orders of Ms. Lopez herself. There's a photo of the original curvature from a page where a scholar refutes another academic's argument about the cultural meaning of J.Lo's butt.

Check my list of interests.

From the refrain of "Baby Got Back" by Sir-Mix-A-Lot: "LA face with an Oakland Booty." I can vouch for the particular nature of the East and West Oakland booty.
In Sir Mix-a-Lot's own words, "I'm hooked and I can't stop staring."

Yeah, what annoyed me about the T ads was that the producers didn't feel, apparently, that you needed to know anything about the movie, whether it was a comedy or a dark comedy or a drama, the setting, the atmosphere, what it was about, not so much as a one-sentence tagline. Knowing that it was Affleck and J. Lo was supposed to be enough to make you want to see it. Bah.

According to the reviews, the movie didn't know which of these it was, either. Apparently it was originally a dark comedy with a bitter ending, but after the highly publicized romance of the two leads, they hurriedly re-filmed key scenes and re-edited all the others, so now it's a confusing mess. I got the impression these modifications included Lopez's lesbian character "hopping the fence" for Affleck's (whereupon she utters one of the most jaw-droppingly ridiculous seduction lines ever recorded on film, which every review I read couldn't resist quoting). So, really, this just seems like a really, really bad movie. Heh heh heh.
