Seven hours since last contact (when I called her cell, and she was at the Exit 3 rest area in Maine, less than two hours to my north) and only one sign from her: an incoming call from her number that went away as soon as I hit the button to answer, about half an hour ago. All calls to her get a full-mailbox message. Not very steadifying.

I know nothing about cellular networks; might the power outage possibly cause disruptions in cell phone service between my 617-area phone and a phone with a Florida area code?

Yes, but cell networks are a priority item for bringing back online - if the networks are down, they shouldn't be for long.

But.

Just like anything that operates by way of radiation soaring through the air, they're affected by weather. Crapsome weather will cause poor or unpredictable cell activity.
