Since I moved here in June I've spent $170 on parking and towing fines. I'm now trained well enough to have just moved my car to the correct side of the street in preparation for tomorrow's street cleaning, but alas, did it late at night, after everyone else had a chance to find nice spots. So: decided to park in the mysterious spot in front of a neighbor's house that nobody ever parks in, because it looks like it should be illegal, but on close inspection I can't find any real argument why it would be. A driveway clearly used to be there-- the sidewalk there still dips to accommodate it -- but isn't anymore, converted by its house into a concrete play-area of sorts, complete with a fence that would prevent a car from entering even if it wanted to. Tomorrow will be the true test, as the police cruiser makes at least two slow trips up my street (first to silently ticket, again to herald the tow truck's imminent arrival via bullhorn, though not so loud that I don't sleep through it). We'll see what happens. It'll be my little secret if it works out.

Oh, who am I kidding... I'll go move it again now. Grah

No no no. Not doing it. It is clearly not a driveway. There is patio furniture set up there, and the space is triangular If I get a ticket, I am so going to follow the fine-print instructions and contest it. I mean, everyone should try that anyway at least once, right?

Also: somehow, since Thursday, my entire car has been entirely coated by a thin layer of sticky sap of some kind. This is actually really gross, and makes driving difficult -- the washer fluid had only partial success cutting through it. I have no idea what it could be. I hope it's related somehow to the trees looming over the streets here. (And not the critters in the trees, I guess. Shudder.)

if it's tree sap, it can likely be removed with mineral oil. I've used mineral oil for years to remove pine tar from my hands, which just doesn't come off by anything else other than abrasion or fire. And I don't like abrading or torching my hands anytime I pick up a leaky 2 x 4 from the home depot.

I'm off to dump mineral oil on my car, replace the washing strips in the car wash with sandpaper and fire up this flame thrower to crisp up the car.
