I fortuitously brought the TiBook even though I wasn't expecting to have Internet, since I figured I'd work on MIGS. And lo, much time was spent a-hacking beside the fire, while people all around played games or chatted or cross-stitched. A few inevitable moments where everyone was noodling around on their respective laptops, and one more person comes in to express sadness at the sight. (And then one of the noodlers will vocally announce that they just updated their blog.) But what can you do?
(Speaking of: To make Kyuss happy, I will note that we spent some amount of time waiting for my traveling companion to complete her slide off the chair and onto the floor. In reality, this took only a few seconds, and we might have missed it had she herself not alerted us. This is when Kyuss insisted I blog it. OK.)
Went canoeing (and participated in a rescue mission with may or may not have actually helped the rescuee (all is well)), and played sous-chef to my namesake in order to make many many BBQ shishkabobs. The amount of food served over the course of the weekend was massive... Oronoka-scale.
Played lots of poker during Saturday's wee hours and finished up by a nickel, even though I was half-asleep. (Was more than a dollar up at one point, alas.) Poker is not my favorite game, for reasons having more to do with attitude than anything else, but I did appreciate learning many new poker variants, and my opponents dusted off some obscure ones expressly for my benefit (and theirs, since confuse-the-noob is always big on the yuks). Poker really is a rich game-space all to its own.
An excellent weekend! Thanks & wishes of good health to the host. Hope y'all had a fine Labor Day weekend, and that my Burner friends are rested & ready to return to the waking world.
