Apr. 26th, 2002 11:22 pmparticular TV ad that played a lot during after-school cartoons? It
was for a technical college of some kind, I think. It wasn't anything
special, just some dude sitting in front of whirring tape spools
(hence he worked with them there computers and was smart)
urging you to start a career in working with them there computers by
making a phone call. He lifted up the handset of a phone and held it
up while chanting, "two-six-two, four-oh, seven-oh," several
times. After maybe two decades of not thinking about it, this number
has come back to me. I know it's right because I can hear, in memory's
ear, my brother Peter making me laugh by imitating the ad.
Yeah, it's pretty obscure. But if you remember "It's fun to find out
what makes an ocean wave wave! This is the captain speaking, come in,
Earth!!", or those weird locally produced PSAs where a middle-aged
woman dressed up in a puffy, sequin-encrusted space suit with antennae
and ate fruit from model spaceships while talking in a funny voice,
then you probably saw this other one, too. That's all I'm saying.
